IBM has 8 bars going through their logo which has not changed since they first started. The stripes and bar convey speed and dynamism with the contrast of the bold letters that also convey confidence, authority, and strength. The negative space is used very well in this situation and IBM has been around long enough that people know and recognize this negative space through the bars. 

 

 

 

  This is a McDonald's advertisement that also gives directional context. This advertisement includes pattern which is the repeating of an object or symbol all over the work of art. You can see that the fry holder is consistent throughout the ad and the "fries" (or "road") is also creating a pattern across it. I thought this ad also had interesting aspects of color. It holds the principles of contrast and brightness, but it also has movement within it. Readers see pages as large shapes and colors when they first look at it, so the pop of color of the background draws the viewer into the advertisement to look closer at it. I like how the color of yellow stayed consistent which also gave-way to the pattern incorporation.
